Internet traffic is best described as a number of people who visit some site. More precisely, it's the number of times certain webpage is seen (loaded) by a different people. When people surf the web, they click one link after another and each of them leads them to a different webpage. That way people visit all kind of pages all over Internet. The number of people who visit certain page shows how much traffic that page receives.
Of course, number is not the only factor that defines if some page has high traffic, or not. Time frame is also important. Webpage that receives certain number of visitors during one day for example has a lot higher traffic than a page that receives same number of visitors during one month. If a page is seen by a lot of people in a short time period, that page qualifies for a high-traffic page.
Mainly there are two types of internet traffic: targeted traffic and untargeted traffic!
Targeted traffic consists of visitors who are interested in site's (or webpage's) content. Depending on a level of their interest, visitors may be low-targeted, semi-targeted, highly targeted, etc...
Naturally, untargeted traffic consists of visitors who are NOT interested in site's content. They usually visit such pages accidently, because lack of information, or they are brought by misleading links, or some other forms of unethical advertising such as spamming. These visitors leave pages quickly. Sometimes they may be even offended and angry. This type of traffic should be avoided!
Because of the nature of internet traffic and the way people surf, to increase your traffic, you need to have as many links as possible all over internet leading to your site (or specific webpage). The more people you present your link with - the more traffic you will have!
Unfortunately, links are not equally valuable. There are a lot of places on the internet where you can place a useless link to your site. These links are usually not seen by anyone. Search Engine (SE) spiders may find them and visit your site, but will not credit it at all. Your site may even be punished, or even banned from the search engine listings.
You can receive traffic to your site for free, or you can pay for it. I have included here a complete sections on how to generate free and paid traffic to your site. For more information visit:
